Projects

I've been practicing my knitting by making dishcloths...

This is my prayer shawl in process, a project for church. My goal is to eventually make socks. We had a knitting group that met Wednesday evenings at the church, but it is on hiatus for the summer. My friend Darby is a knitting fanatic, so hopefully we can get some knit nights together to hone our craft....and have socks by winter time!!!

Harlem Globetrotters

The boys sure enjoyed the Harlem Globetrotters a couple weeks ago...Duncan got some autographs after. We sure are an autograph-getting family, huh?

Eli was a little (lot) scared of "Globie", the person walking around in a globe outfit. (per usual).

Baseball Time Again

Yay....it's baseball season again and the Livingstons have Cardinal's fever!! Even Joe is playing in a fantasy baseball league. What the...?

The boys ventured out to Hammon's Field last weekend to catch the St. Louis Cardinals.

Big-leaguer Mark Mulder was pitching, and Brendan Ryan was there too. (They got his autograph!)

Easter

Easter, the first holiday of spring. Even though Thursday was the first day of spring, today wasn't very spring-like. At least, it was a little too cold and windy for my taste. Duncan and Eli decorated eggs yesterday. One of my favorite parts of Easter. I love the smell of vinegar and all of the bright colors. Although nowdays, they have way too many options, I think. The dye kit we bought had twelve different colors in it, which I didn't realize when I bought it. I'm fine with just six, myself. Too many cups to clean up.

Today we went to church and afterwards there was an Easter egg hunt there. Then we went to Grandma Judy and Grandpa David's for lunch and more Easter egg hunts. (After the first one, the kids took turns hiding them themselves.)

Then home again, ready for the start of a new week.

Books I'm Reading

Twilight by Sarah Meyer

The Pillars of the Earth, Ken Follett This is supposed to be such a page-turner! Why can't I make myself pick it up? 1/8/07: OK, so it is a page turner. But that doesn't mean I like it.
The Memory Keeper's Daughter. I've put off reading this (not sure why), but so far it's a page-turner-take-along-with-me-wherever-I-go book.
I'm back to The Whole World Over, and I've gotten into it this time. One note of interest is that she has included a character from Three Junes, which is a nice touch. Once I got about halfway through this, it really picked up. I'm glad that I read it.
A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
The Road, by Cormac McCarthy. I've had a little trouble getting in the Julia Glass novel. I've heard this one is a quick read so I've started it in hopes of getting a book read this summer. So far, everything I've heard about it is true.... 9/5/07: Heartbreaking and disturbing. The way we're used to living our lives could change in an instant. It's way too easy to get caught up in the trivialities. It's the basic things that are most important.
The Whole World Over, by Julia Glass. I picked this up at the Las Vegas airport. I really loved her first book, Three Junes, and I hope this one is just as good!
Born on a Blue Day, A Memoir (Inside the Extraordinary Mind of an Autistic Savant) by Daniel Tammet This was an excellent book! It is difficult to fathom how his mind works. But I really admire what he has done with his life, and his level of independance, and that he has written a book! The ending is very satisfying. I appreciate how he lives his life, holding close to the principles of simplicity and self-sufficiency.
Veil of Roses, by Laura Fitzgerald. One my friend Shierine gave me. An easy read, I found it hard to put down! "This compelling debut follows one spirited young woman from the confines of Iran to the intoxicating freedom of America..."
