Las Vegas on My Mind

We made it back from Las Vegas Sunday night, our pockets not as full as we had hoped. Lady Luck was nowhere to be found for these kids, but luckily we had enough fun to make up for it!
We did plenty of eating: Bobby Flay's Mesa Grill (de-lish!), Chip directed us to Battistas Italian restaurant http://www.battistaslasvegas.com/, they call themselves a 'hole in the wall'...we were mesmerized by the signed photos from stars of days gone by. Shierine really liked the one of Michael Landon. See above photo. The accordian player was a little old man who played us the 'Missouri Waltz'. Joe did shots of white wine, which caught up with him later...I think he got the "shivs"! Then of course there were the Vegas buffets--from crab legs to biscuits and gravy, there is any combination of edible delights that you could hope for. Steaks, lobster, P.F. Chang's, you name it we ate it!
You can see from the photos that we were constantly having wardrobe malfunctions...people in our group kept dressing alike, finally we just gave up and accepted it! Joe went to his first piano bar, at the Paris hotel...we got in a bidding war over country music and ended up paying at least $35 to hear You Don't Have to Call Me Darlin' by David Alan Coe. People out there don't always have the correct perception of us folks from the midwest...the piano player kept asking us if we brought our mayonaisse with us to Vegas (??) But it was all in good fun, as the piano player assured me...
I found an awesome band at the Big Apple Bar in New York New York called Phoenix. I told the singer I'd put their link on my blog: http://www.phoenix2005.com/ From Journey to Zeppelin to the Eagles they were right up my alley. (Casey, you would have loved them too!) And the guitar player looked just like Eric Allen! (Joe disagrees).
Speaking of look-alikes, we saw who we thought was the twin of Joe's stepdad, David Young at Toby Keith's 'I Love this Bar'...both of us thought it was shocking! I got a picture with him but it's on Joe's phone and I don't know how to get it here. Anyway, he was from Santa Fe, probably thought we were crazy, but oh well!
All in all we had a blast. There is no place like Vegas. I'm already ready to go back!!!!
P.S. Shierine wanted Joe and I to get our vows renewed by Rodney Dangerfield and Joe wanted me to get a tattoo. Thankfully neither of these things happened!
