Some pictures from out trip to Iowa this past weekend for Uncle David's 60th birthday party. It was fun to see everybody, especially all the kids we'd only seen pictures of. The highlight of the evening was a little karaoke. It's something I've always wanted to do and I finally got the chance. I think the kids got the biggest kick out of it...

Go Cardinals!
In case you didn't know, my favorite baseball team is the

It was amazing how much the boys evolved in their skills since last summer. I can't wait to see how well they do next year!

Baby Tess

We finally got to meet Baby Tess! She and Steph came for a visit last week. An added bonus was that Heather was in town also! We all met at Mijuri for sushi on Friday, and Saturday night Shierine and Chip had us all over for a BBQ. I had seen pictures of Tess, and fallen in love with her. But in real life, she just blew me away! She is so sweet and pretty, and right now I think she looks alot like Mattie, even though I see Steph in her too. But she has her Daddy's blue eyes, and they are beautiful. Steph kept saying Tess was cranky because she's getting ready to cut teeth, but her cranky crying was still adorable. She's at that really cute stage where she's sticking her arms out sideways, like an airplane, and she's real smiley and sociable. Duncan and Eli fell in love with her too. At one point, Duncan came up and whispered in my ear, "Mom, isn't Tess cute?" They were also really excited to go pick out a present for her.
Julie and Charlie
Julie and Charlie were in town the past few days to visit before they leave for China. They brought Scout also and the transfer of ownership was made. (We are still in an adjustment/transition phase. More on that in a future blog). We spent some time up at Dad and Karen's, practicing baseball with Duncan, shooting skeet, and watching the Cardinals win (for once). We also went with Mom and Stockton for a FULL day at Silver Dollar City, which was really fun. We rode Fire in the Hole, ate funnel cakes and
salt water taffy, got soaking wet on the Water Boggan ride, and the more adventurous ones rode the roller coasters (Julie and Joe).

The Tooth Fairy's Coming

Yes, the dangling tooth has finally come out! And no, it wasn't by tying a string around the tooth and a doorknob and slamming the door, or by biting into a pickle or Jolly Rancher. It happened at baseball practice! A grounder took a bad bounce and hit Duncan in the mouth, and the tooth bit the dust. So that's tooth #4.

Happy Birthday Duncan

As a surprise for Duncan , we had Marty the Magician for a magic show! He wowed both the kids and adults with his awesome magic tricks and sense of humor. Duncan got to be a special helper for some of the tricks, and the magic words were always 'Happy Birthday Duncan!" The special guest star of the show was Ricki the Rabbit, a cute white bunny that was in one of the tricks and that all the kids got to pet after t
he show. After the magician, we did the Spiderman 3 pinata, and I learned that it
doesn't take as long to get a pinata to bust open if you use a metal T-ball bat. Four hits and that baby popped right open! Joe grilled up some hotdogs to eat, and the kids played around and we all hung out until cake time. Duncan picked out a Fantastic Four cake. (We went and saw the movie the day before for his b-day. )

After the party, he went swimming for a little while with his friend John. When he got home, he told me that he had a really fun birthday party. And he was tired, he wanted to go to bed.
I remember when I was pregnant with Duncan, they had an idea he was going to be a big baby, so I was scheduled to be induced. I chose July 5, since I had a hair appointment on the 3rd that I didn't want to miss. (I wanted to look good in the hospital!) So I worked the holiday, July 4, and went to Wal-Mart afterward to pick up last minute neccesities. Keep in mind my legs were swollen to the size of an elephants, and my feet were so swollen that I had been wearing Joe's shoes for weeks. When we went to the hospital the morning of July 5, little did I know that it would not be until 8:52 the following evening, that I would be holding my baby. We just hung out that whole day, reading magazines, watching TV, I especially remember they kept showing the Nathan's hot dog eating contest over and over, with that Japanese kid Kobayashi shoving tons of hotdogs down his throat! We have watched it every year since as a tribute to that day! Coworkers snuck me in hard candies, since I wasn't allowed to eat anything but ice chips. I was pretty disappointed it was going to take a whole other day to have a baby, but it wasn't up to me. Judy and David were waiting around on us to go get married, finally we told them just to go ahead and go or else it might not happen! As it turned out, I had Duncan on the 6th, the same day as Judy and David's wedding day (and future anniversary day) and also the same day as David's birthday!
One last note, I knew that Duncan was going to be a large baby. But I was not expecting 10 pounds 5 ounces, with no epidural at that! That is one experience I will never forget.

Las Vegas on My Mind

We made it back from Las Vegas Sunday night, our pockets not as full as we had hoped.
Lady Luck was nowhere to be found for these kids, but luckily we had enough fun to make up for it!
We did plenty of eating: Bobby Flay's Mesa Grill (de-lish!), Chip directed us to Battistas Italian restaurant http://www.battistaslasvegas.com/, they call themselves a 'hole in the wall'...we were mesmerized by the signed photos from stars of days gone by. Shierine really liked the one of Michael Landon. See above photo. The accordian player was a little old man who played us the 'Missouri Waltz'. Joe did shots of white wine, which caught up with him later...I think he got the "shivs"! Then of course there were the Vegas buffets--from crab legs to biscuits and gravy, there is any combination of edible delights that you could hope for.
Steaks, lobster, P.F. Chang's, you name it we ate it!

You can see from the photos that we were constantly having wardrobe malfunctions...people in our group kept dressing alike, finally we just gave up and accepted it!
Joe went to his first piano bar, at the Paris hotel...we got in a bidding war over country music and ended up paying at least $35 to hear You Don't Have to Call Me Darlin' by David Alan Coe. People out there don't always have the correct perception of us folks from the midwest...the piano player kept asking us if we brought our mayonaisse with us to Vegas (??) But it was all in good fun, as the piano player assured me...
I found an awesome band at the Big Apple Bar in New York New York called Phoenix. I told the singer I'd put their link on my blog: http://www.phoenix2005.com/
From Journey to Zeppelin to the Eagles they were right up my alley. (Casey, you would have loved them too!) And the guitar player looked just like Eric Allen! (Joe disagrees).
Speaking of look-alikes, we saw who we thought was the twin of Joe's stepdad, David Young at Toby Keith's 'I Love this Bar'...both of us thought it was shocking! I got a picture with him but it's on Joe's phone and I don't know how to get it here. Anyway, he was from Santa Fe, probably thought we were crazy, but oh well!
All in all we had a blast. There is no place like Vegas. I'm already ready to go back!!!!
P.S. Shierine wanted Joe and I to get our vows renewed by Rodney Dangerfield and Joe wanted me to get a tattoo. Thankfully neither of these things happened!
